Keisha McLean

My name is Keisha McLean. I am a parent of seven and a grandparent of six amazing children. I have been married for 27 years. I have served in various roles in Early Child Education throughout Orange and Riverside Counties over the past 32 years.

I am passionate about supporting pregnant mothers, infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and their families, children in foster care and their families, those who are experiencing homelessness, have special needs, and those who are on public assistance and living at or below the poverty line.

I draw from the wealth of knowledge that I have gained through my professional and educational experiences. I started my career in early child education as an Assistant Teacher. I began my journey of higher education at Orange Coast College, receiving an Associate of Arts in Liberal Studies. I received a Bachelor of Science in Child and Adolescent Development from Union Institute & University. I hold a California Child Development Master Teacher Permit (Infant/Toddler Specialty), a California Child Development Site Supervisor Permit, and a California Child Development Center Director Permit. I am currently a Graduate Student in Marriage and Family Therapy at Hope International University.

I have worked as a Teacher, Lead Teacher, Teacher Coach (peer teaching), Center Director, and Mentor Coach. Having worked with a wide range of ages, spanning from Infants to School-aged children, I have learned many strategies to support children’s growth, development, and well-being.

Although my credentials are in Child Development, my professional experience spans beyond Infant and Child and Adolescent Development to elderly care. I served the elderly population for many years, which is an amazing experience in its own right. It was an honor and a privilege to serve our elder community. However, my passion for working in Infant/Toddler Development drew me away from elder care. The more I learned about the fact that the brain develops and grows most between zero and three years of age, the more fascinated I became. Children are sponges soaking up every experience and nuance catapulted in their direction. My work focuses on supporting and nurturing the growth and development of children and their families, especially during these years.

I currently serve the community as a Birth Doula, providing informational, emotional, and physical support for families before, during, and after the birth of their baby/ies. I work with families to ensure that they are empowered to make safe, healthy, and informed decisions in the development of their birth plans. I provide active labor support to ensure birthing families are empowered and cared for in the labor and delivery room. I prepare families for the transition to parenthood as new parents and as those who are expanding their families.

As a Family Life Coach, I help families navigate the ins and outs of how to do life while parenting. This is done through education, empowerment, and goal setting.

As a Mentor Coach, I help teachers reflect on and set goals for their professional growth and development. I help them create and facilitate rich educational experiences for children through high-quality teacher-child interactions that include integrative and intentional teaching strategies.
